Charleston

Rich & Melva
On the Charleston Beach
We went to see Charleston's historic forts

On the Aircraft Carrier the USS Yorktown "Fighting Lady"

It was so WINDY on top of the carrier, I thought Katherine would blow away!
We went to Summerville's Azalea Festival
Dolphin swimming outside RB's Restaurant
Love the beautiful ironwork in the historic distric
Next, we went to Charleston, South Carolina to visit my good friends, Rich & Melva. Melva battled breast cancer last year and it was a difficult thing to get through. I knew going to see her then would help lift her spirits, and it was such a treat to see her and Rich again! We went to see historic forts along the coast, out for some of the most delectable seafood (one restaurant, R.B.'s even had dolphins swimming outside), and went to tour an aircraft carrier. Who knew they had a whole city on an aircraft carrier (barbers, a huge kitchen, doctors, etc)--so huge! I love the southern charm of the city and the beautiful iron gates in the historic area.

Washington D.C.

One of my favorites of the Washington Monument.

We went to D.C. for a day. The weather wasn't the best--cold and rainy all day! We rode into town on the Metro. We went to the Air & Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History. Then we were all tired from all of the walking and didn't get to any thing else on the Mall. We also knew we had a 2 hr drive back to Williamsburg, so more museums will have to wait for our next trip to D.C. ...

Williamsburg

A fife and drum parade--really gives you the feeling you're in Colonial times--so cool!
Katherine played the harpsichord
Rich liked the woodworker's shop and the detail and quality workmanship of their furniture.
Here's the almost finished barrel.
My favorite was the cooper
Patrick Henry and George Washington debate
Katherine was so excited to go on a carriage ride.
Loading a canon.
In the Stocks!
Our first time to see oxen yoked together. I thought of the symbolism of what yoked together can mean.

We watched the blacksmith--very amazing to see him work his craft!
We stayed at King's Creek Plantation. It is a really nice condo with lots to see and do there (an olympic sized pool). We enjoyed spending a few days in Colonial Williamsburg. What I liked the most was there are lots of people in period costumes and you would run into them randomly on the streets (like when Patrick Henry and George Washington were there having a political debate). The blacksmith was one of our favorite artisans to watch. Rich really liked the cabinet maker's shop and I liked the cooper. Katherine wanted to go on a carriage ride.
